First you need to check the contents of the package of the Router and the USB Wireless Adapter. Are there instructions or software (CD, DVD, or Floppy) with any of those products? If not, you can visit either product's manufacturer's website for both software and instructions. If you're still having difficulties, there is also a FAQ and Troubleshooting sections.

If you want to skip all that mumbo-jumbo, leave all unplugged. Start up your computer. After it's up and running, connect and power up the router. once it's showing that it's working clearly, plug in the USB Adapter and wait for Windows XP to self-install the software needed for the USB Adapter to operate. Then you'll want to double-check everything by going into your "Network and Internet Connections" which is in your "Control Panel" which is in your "Start" menu/button.
