If the only traction problem you foresee is slick boat ramps. I'd get a 2WD with a locking differential. I have always had 4WD trucks with locking differentials because I live in Illinois and use it quite often in the winter and occasionally off-road. I fish bass tournaments and pull a boat thousands of miles every year. The locking rear differential has engaged more times than I could count while in 2WD on slick boat ramps, but I've never had to engage 4WD on a boat ramp. I doubt that a 4WD would be worth the initial cost or the lost fuel economy in your case.

4wd is good to have, adds resale value, and looks better. the only way i see you needing it though is if the boat launch is really bad, but if you are getting 2 or 4wd get a limited slip differential, or a locking differential, 2wd trucks are better for towing, no need whatsoever to put your truck in 4wd for towing.....i had a 2wd S-10 and i pulled larger boats out of some nasty boat launches, and it only had an open differential......there is of course more to go wrong with a 4wd, especially the newer ones, since they dont have manual locking hubs, this means it is eloctronically or vacume controlled and your half shafts will always be spinning, therefore more wear and tear and depleted fuel economy

If you can afford the extra cost I would purchase a four wheel drive and only turn it on when you tow. The gas you use will be the same with a 4wd or 2wd if you hardly turn it on. The only way you use more gas is if you have a all wheel drive vehicle.

id get a four wheel drive just to be safe cause some of the boat launches get pretty muddy or have a crappy bottom and if your by yourself and you get stuck then your screw right. And if you have a big boat it's nice to just stick it in 4 low to back up or pull the boat out of the launch, and it's easier on the truck also.

2 wheel drive, only use 4 if you off road or have snow and Ice problems. I have a '69 2 wheel drive that I off road all the time and it is fine, and 2 wheel drives can carry more of a load and they get better gas mileage

4 wheel drive is the only way to go. Better have it and not need it. Not only that, but the stance of the 4x4 truck looks 100% better than the 2wd.

Doesn't sound like you will need the 5 or 6 thousand dollar extra. You will still have the clearance to navigate boat ramps and the like. A nice set of ''beefy'' tires should do the trick!

4WD will help pull your boat, and its always nice to have it as far as im concerned, plus if you ever decide to pull something bigger like a 5th wheel it will really help, plus when you go to sell it the all wheel drive is very nice to alot of people

4 WD since you will be pulling a boat, and it will add to the resale value of the vehicle when you sell later on.
