No.No and No,because ever since the start of the second World War United States has been fighting wars at roughly 10 year periods. These constant wars have earned a lot of hate and disrespect in the world and brought sufferings both at home and abroad.I think after the Iraq quagmire is over America should look for peaceful future in order to mend the fences and bring in era of peace and happiness in the entire world.God will like that.

This question doesn't even make sense. As a servicemen, I raised my hand in an oath to protect this country from ALL enemies foreign and domestic and to follow the oreders of those above me. I have no right to complain and neither do the families who put themselves in that predicament. Wounded and dead servicemen? If I die, my newborn will know that I was a hero when I died. I'm not saying you DID compare the Iraq war to Vietnam, but many who share your opinion do compare the two. In almost 4 years, we have lost JUST over 3,000 people. In Vietnam, we lost over 50,000. This war hasn't had the best strategies, but it is by NO means a blunder.
A draft is only needed if we do not have the number of troops it takes to carry out the mission. Luckily there are enough men and women out there who understand and take on the risks of joining the armed services.
Where's your bleeding hearts for the thousands dying MONTHLY just here in the states unvoluntarily. Clear up those spectacles you have on and open your mind.

Bringing in a draft to prove a political point? Isn't that a bit sadistic? In my opinion drafts carry a lot of risks as well as the benefit of additional soldiers. Drafted soldiers are less competant, less well motivated, and their (more likely than career soldiers) deaths bring moral in their home nation down a lot faster than the deaths of career soldiers - which of course bring moral and faith in the war down significantly too.
However, a draft may be inevitable in the US, if the US continues to support the government of Iraq, and violence continues at a high level. To begin with the coalition consisted of many different countries - now even Britain will withdraw troops shortly.

Pressing those who do not want to be in the military into service via a draft is overall a detriment. This was experienced during Vietnam.
The draftees who do not want to be in the military hinder the efforts of those who actually want to be there. In order to have a military only as capable as we have today we would need to have a draft enhanced military at least 1.5 times the size it currently is by most conservative estimates. Most of the commanders prefer having a highly motivated yet slightly smaller force compared to a larger but less motivated force.
If you are unhappy with the reduced size of the military today blame the Clinton administration. They slashed the military.

I really hope you don't think this is an original idea...the very same thing for the very same reasons has been promoted by some members of congress for some time now. By the way, the way to prevent being in the mess we are in now is to stop invading other countries. It doesn't matter if it's done with volunteer or drafted troops, it's still wrong.

When someone joins the military, they go in knowing that they may be called to war. It's their job and they know they may be called to do it. As for the draft, I think we should bring it back for the same reasons that you have stated. I don't think this war is very popular with anyone these days...but I also believe that if President Bush hadn't done anything after 9-11 then everyone would be calling him a coward. He was in a lose-lose situation.

Anyone joining the military is there on a volunteer basis. They chose to serve no one forced them to. If the draft is to be reinstated I believe that it should be for both male and females.
Equal rights are equal all the way around, not just where you want them.

We have the freedom to choose, make our own decisions on this matter. I feel it is a private matter not a governmental one.
It is people like you I feel who is trying to make changes when change is not needed. One to cause trouble when/where trouble is not needed.
The government chose for soldiers to come and go back and forth, not this society of people. Leave this matter alone until you know what you are talking about.

Yes , I think we need the draft reinstated....Not because of the war being unfare.....Would you rather fight in your backyard or over there? Anyway , I think we need the draft because there are two many mambie--pambie, mama kids who are scared of crossing the road against a green light out there anymore...We need to BRAVE UP AMERICA again..What happened to REAL PEOPLE willing to fight and die for FREEDOM and OUR WAY OF LIFE....and YES I'D GO....

yes, we should. draft everyone over the age of 35, unlike
the old draft. let the young people live their youth, not
die for some old decrepit dirty old bastard, living in fantasyland.
the old people caused the problem,. we screwed up the
world pretty good, back in the 1960's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
we have to pass the baton in the relay race to generation y.
maybe they will learn from history and our ugly mistakes.
i won't send my kids to die from some fortune five hundred,
greedy s.o.b. let them send theirs. let's see general donald
tramp lead the charge!!!
