You can, but you shouldn't. Not just distilled that is. Distilled water is really too pure for you fish to do well. You can use distilled to mix with tap water to adjust such things as hardness and pH, but you should only do that under special circumstances. Also be aware that you will have to mix the same ration every time you change water and also that bringing new fish into your tank would be a hassle as well.
Tap water is quite good for your fish in almost all cases. It does have chlorine added, but that is easy to remove with any number of dechlorinating drops. Nothing else is added to normal tap water, just what it comes out of the ground or river with. Remember, tap water must pass very careful testing to be safe for humans. Since most tap water in the country is spring water, why pay the ridiculous price? It's no better and no worse than tap.

you shouldn't put distilled water into a tank because distilled water is just plain H2O with no minerals that the fish need to survive. what you can do if you dont see the need to buy bottled water, is if u have a 5 gallon bottle like the ones people use for drinking water at the office, just get like 2 dollars worth of 5 gallons of water that is purified and set to go. I do this in my tanks with sick fish, it seems to give them less stress. if you are still unsure, go half and half, half the tank could be conditioned tap water and the other half mixed drinking bottled or purified water, I do these with my other fishes in their tanks and I havent had one die yet! you can also let tap water sit out for 24 to 48 hours to dechlorinate and that should be fine for the fish too. good luck!

No. Distilled water has had all of the beneficial minerals removed. The best water to use is spring water and if you can afford it, this is really the way to go. Otherwise, you can use tap water, but it has a lot of bad additives to it that need to be removed with a dechlorinator/detoxifier. You will need to test your water regardless of what type of water you use, but using spring water ensures a little bit better quality of water than tap water anyway.

Not good for fish. The minerals that fish need is missing in distilled water. Regular bottled water is O K for freshwater fish.

-----I think distilled water will kill the fish. Whatever water you use, you need to "age" the water for a few weeks. Consult your fish books for the correct water to use, and how to prepare it. There is a huge difference between fresh and salt water fish tanks. ---Jim

No, most fish are incapble of osmotic regulation in pure h2o. Their cell walls could burst if the solution isn't saline enough. Its like being thrown in salt water, but the other end of the water regulation scale.

Yes, you can pretty much use any type of water. No matter what type of water though, I would put neutralizer and stress chemical, just to be sure. Never trust a water label.

Yes but I suggest aged water. Save some old milk or juice jugs. Clean out very good, and keep your extra water in them.

well, assuming you have hands, yes you can. But you shouldn't, fish need the minerals in normal tap water.
