I'd have to say Sidney Crosby for all his moves, shots, and amazing goals. Only thing Ovechkin is better at, is checking. Daniel Briere is the most surprising one. Having a very great season. Captain along with Chris Drury. Having a great season, one of the best in the league, especially considering not many people talk about him being one of the top players in the NHL.

Crosby leads the league with 87 pts in 52 games and is a +13...
Ovechkin leads the league in goals and shots on goal but is a -12..
both are tops in most categories...
But to answer your question... I'd have to say Martin Brodeur.. The Devils is one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL this year and yet because of Brodeur they are in First place... he also ranks top 3 in every goaltending category so far this year...

sidney crosby is the best offensive player. he's racking up a ton of points on that pens team, and him, malkin, fleury, and j staal are getting them up into contention FAST.
but you are right...hossa is the best two way player. ovechkin is the most naturally talented, but crosby outdoes him as best offensive player because of crosby's instincts and playmaking. ovechkin would win a skills competition against crosby, but crosby would put up the points (more).
hossa, meanwhile, gets points for doing it on a team that is really struggling when he has a rough spell. he basically IS their offense since kovalchuk is having a down year. PLUS he's managed to put together a decent +/- this year, and the thrashers have been giving up goals by the practice bucket lately.

it's too hard to compare players playing offense to deffense or deffense to goalie or offense to goalie
so i'll give u my opinion for each!
Offense- Alexander Ovechkin. Crosby's incredible, but Ovechkin's got attitude, and is really good at hitting!
Defense- Nicklas Lidstrom. 3 stanley cups, 4 norris trophy winners, 9 allstar game appearneces, the game-winning goal in the 2006 winter olympic gold medal game, need I say anymore?
Goalie- Martin Brouduer. Best since Patrick Roy left, and even then they he was about equal with him. He's gonna be one of the greatest of all time

No doubt it is Sydney Crosby. This kid is a nasty dangler and a great playmaker. Ovechkin is just good for snipin it. Crosby is the best all around player. By the way Erik Cole is the best two way player.

I love Alex Ovechkin. He has the attitude, skill, determination, drive, and heart that it takes to suceed. He has great sportsmanship. You give him the puck and he scores. He can score laying down, on his knees, or standing up. His penatly time is pretty low too. That shows that he is a very controlled player too.
