An 86 chev 1/2 ton does have a vacuum modulator valve. If this component is pooched the tranny wont shift properly.

It depends on the transmission in the pick-up. If it is a 4L60 also known as a THM700R4 then No. If it has a THM 350 or a THM 400 then it will have a vacuum modulator.

is it turbo-metric, or turbo 350/375?, 700r4, 200r4, or what? the metric does NOT have a modulator valve.
