both of my brothers passed away do to suicide within 18 months of eachother. with my little brother noone had a clue except 1 friend. he didn't know what to do he tried to prevent it by making it his problem. no he knows he should have said something. my brother was always happy and full of life loved sports. so it was a shock. my older brother on the other hand tried time and time again to get help form the hospital and talked with people. we tired to help him in many ways and yet we got no where. he tried to hang on as long as he could but he saw no hope. i wounder if even the hospitals or other places need to know more about it. i just want to talk about what to do if someone comes to you or all the situations that can cause depression. i just feel as though i need to help others.
there was a girl who answered "alterna" i would like to ask you some thing but you don't receive emails.

I think it's an excellent idea. I used to want to kill myself, but I could never do it, I was too afraid. And boy, am I glad I didn't!

I think it will help MANY out there who are thinking of ways to end their life. It could've helped this guy at my school who hung himself. No one knew what was wrong with him, everytime he'd come to school, he'd be happy. Maybe he was hiding his sadness, maybe he didn't want people to know about how he really felt. But if suicidal people could watch that show, I think a lot of them would change their minds about life.

I agree with you, it's not talked about often. People need to start letting others know that life is really important and that there are other ways to solve whatever problems they're having.

Good question, I'm starring this.

Why? If you have taken into consideration all the effects of bringing this subject up in a public forum? And why do you think bringing up the subject of suicide in a public forum is the way to handle it? To bring more awareness to the public about the facts of suidide?
I think it is a good idea. And this way you will know for sure what the public knows and where the public is at about suicide. And perhaps you will also help divulgate and inform for the purpose of discovering who may be in the danger zone of behavior that can lead to suicide and thus perhaps even prevent suicide in a way that may not have worked. Good Luck

Absolutely i do! My son died by suicide in July of 2005 and alot of the reason I am on here to answer questions, is in hopes to help people with info. that might give them knowledge about suicide. What causes it, who does it, what it does to the loved ones left behind. And to help people understand that depression almost always plays a part. Writing letters to Dr. Phil is a wonderful idea. He is respected and in turn respects his quests. He would treat the subject with the utmost care.
There are some groups that are trying to get info. out into schools by visiting them. They go and give talks to the kids. But obviously, there are not enough of them and we need more.
Great idea!

I think it would be helpful. When I was growing up, there weren't teen-age suicides. Was it because there less pressures or the fact that people handled stress differently?Maybe it is due to the fact that both parents need to work now, and that the kids are growing up much quicker.I live in a state that 14 year olds can drive. They can't remember to pickup their clothes off the floor but can legally drive.

i agree. suicide does need to be talked about as long as it is not being condoned. Too many people commit suicide for reasons that could have been avoided if there were more facilities and more help for people who are depressed. Get it out there, make people aware that it happens and it could happen to anyone. Even those who u would least expect.

If you know someone who killed themself or if you are some kind of expert on the subject & could be helpful, then yes. If you don't have any real life experience of some kind then I would say no. I don't like the Dr. Phil show at all. He cheated on his wife. Are you sure his show is that popular?

yes and no . depends on what is said . who watches and how they relate to the message.
this could plant a seed what the seed turns into no one knows .
some get a good seed and would do what Phil said . others will think him a kind of nut and just take the talk as another reason to consider suicide. so you see it all depends who watches that day.
