I had a hysterectomy about 5 years ago, I am 45 now. I was taking hormones and they worked wonderfully. I stopped taking them about 6 months ago because of the scare about cancer.
The flashes have diminished during the day, but as soon as I lay down in bed for the night, I get them like every 5 minutes and I can't sleep. Why is that?

I am a 50 year old healthcare provider and I can tell you truthfully that this is common for menopausal hot flashes. I can even remember my Mom laughingly telling her friends how she felt sorry for Dad because at night she'd be throwing the covers off and on every five minutes. Sometimes they'd even have to get up and change the sheets from the sweat. So, join the ranks of us all. You're right, as healthcare providers we do not order hormones for symptoms like we used to. There are some herbs that can help. It is just one of those times in a womans life. Talk to some older women....our sisters can help us know how women have always coped with the times of our lives. You know you can always go to your healthcare provider.

I am 44 and I sweat horribly at nighttime I wake up I am soaked,my forehead is dripping, the back of my neck, and I am so uncomfortable, like you say its really bad at night too.I use natural progeterone cream and take black cohosh, but still suffer, because I do not want to go on hormone pills, the cream replaces estrogen in your system, check at your local health food store for it if thats something you would like to try. Also i noticed the sweating is bad right after I take a shower for some reason and when I get stressed out the hot flashes come on immediatley.I cant wait for this to end,I hate all the sweating, its feels gross too.
