No it is not an offensive term. Army Brat, Military Brat, and Base Brat are all common terms to describe kids that grow up on Military Bases. I spent most of my school years on military bases and we used this all the time to describe ourselves... hell, our parents used it on us! It is kinda a term of endearment for a culture that civie street wouldn't understand.

I'm an Air Force brat & proud of it!
We use that term when we talk to each and when we describe ourselves to other. I've never found it offensive in any way.
Hope this helps.

I don't think the term "army brat" is any more offensive than "preacher's kid" or "teacher's kid".
A "brat" is a spoiled or ill-mannered child. Anyone's child, even the local butcher's, can be a "brat".

It is. It is a term used to imply that children of Army Officials don't have concequented behavior. Most believe that we can do whatever we want and not have to face it. That is completly untrue. Children of Military Officials actually have more harsh consequences than the rest. It is kind of like being the preacher's kids, what is expected of us is higher than that of "normal" kids.

Not that I know of. I hear people describe themselves thus all the time. Plus, I don't see that it's listed as a pejorative term at dictionary.com.
