My younger sister thinks that since in her eyes her family is blind and pushes her away etc, she should go to her friend instead to tell her things. She says this friend ( who is 18, my sister is 16) has a lot of wisdom and is really mature ( i'm not so sure about that) is taking the place of her parents since there not there and she's taking my place because she doesn't think i'm being a good enough sister ( see my question about what to do when a sister kicks you out of her life) I think this is dangerous. My parents are in their 40s, they have much more wisdom than an 18 year old. I can't believe she's giving it all up for this friend.

Friends will tell you what you WANT to hear. Parents and family will tell you what you NEED to hear.

ure sister should confide in u, be like her friend would be the best bet, maybe she confides in her friends is because she is very scared to be pushed away, make her realize that family is there forever and friends come and go. THE ONLY time a person doesn't confide in parents is the parents don;t listen to the child, so if ure parents are like that u should talk to them, i think!!
hope this helps

It depends on what she's needing to talk about. Maybe a friend can give insight better because we always tend to be our parents' babies so they can't see the bigger picture.

Maybe a teacher, advisor or church member would be appropriate. Friends at this age are fleeting at best - invest time in someone who will be there through the decades not the next few hours.

Well, we know it's better to talk with our parents. But when we were 16, we were probably more apt to talk with our friends. When your sister is older, she'll look back and realize that Mom and Dad were not the bad guys.

Depends on the situation. Some the family can relate to better, and others, the friend. It's a judgement call.

Having friends to talk to is good because it seems when they are your age level it's easier to talk to. But I think she still should feel comfortable talking to her parents because they knows whats best. I think you should talk to her 1 on 1 about the goods and bads about talkining to a friend about everyting.

With anyone there are certain subjects that are appropriate to talk about with parents and then some that are not. It all depends on what she is telling. Either way it is up to her to decide what she says and who she says it to!
