The reason the U.S. will lose in Iraq is because there was no clear goal at the beginning. At the outset of the war, people would have said winning would be ridding Iraq of weapons of mass destruction. Then it became operation iraqi freedom, then regime change, then establishing a stable democracy in the heart of the middle east. Well guess what, the iraqis now have freedom, except they are using it to kill each other, as well as any american troops they can pick off. Before you can have a plan for victory, you have to know what victory is. If the victory is for Iraqi's to have both FREEDOM and SECURITY at the same time, then sorry, the united states armed forces are not going to establish a shining democracy in the heart of the middle east. They are not trained to do that. They are trained to kill the enemy, and they are good at it. I think most democrats recognize that only one group of people can create a safe stable democracy in iraq: the Iraqis. So the democratic plan for victory in Iraq is, sad but true, let the Iraqis deal with it, and hope for the best, because a bunch of 18-25 year old americans with guns ain't gonna build a safe, stable democracy in Iraq.

What makes you think there can be a victory? Any chance we had was lost when we disbanded the Iraqi Army and the entire de-Baathification against the wishes of experts. All we can do is try to pull out.

victory is pulling out while we have a shred of self respect left, we sure have none with the rest of the world after this debacle. Victory would be spending the billions of dollars here instead of there. victory would be learning a lesson instead of perpetuating a mess. victory would be saving amercians by not making them a target in a country that they stand out in like a sore thumb doing a job they are not trained for, not suitable for, and are being wasted doing.

More devisive langauge "you liberals". There is no victory to be had in Iraq for Americans, only for Iraquis. You see it is THEIR country. We should try to do as much as we can to leave a better more prosperous Iraq tahn how we found it but we should emphasize the "Leave."

Get out and let the Sunni's and Shia's kill each other until there's victory. Let the Iraqi people fight it out. They'll decide who's victorious.

Leave and have war by proxy. I think its far better for Iraqi's to kill one another rather than us.
