It is one of a kind. It's called the Framptophone or Framptochord, or something like that. He invented and patented it himself. Notice how he's the only guitar artist who uses one.

Definitely a talk box. We used to call them a "pig" in the old days. It's a plastic tube that makes the voice and guitar sounds merge. Frampton used it quite a bit. Joe Walsh still uses it with the Eagles.

I think I've also heard it called a talk box. the person playing the guitar will have a sort of tube that they put their mouth on while playing the part. it's also heard in Rocky Mountain Way.

Well, in the day, ie, when I was a young puppy, we just called it a wawa pedal.. but, I think he was actually using the lever on his guitar that produced those sounds..
can't remember the technical term, though, but, it was all part of the gig...
