a laptop is always good for work on the go or school or gaming but if you want a laptop for work you would probably go with a:
Dual Core 1.5 GHz processor
At least a 80GB hard drive
a media accelerator of some kind for videos
at least 512MB of RAM(preferably DDR 2)
a Dual Layer DVD±RW capable of writing CD-RW's as well
and something with a battery life of 3-4 Hrs
Now if you want one for school just make sure it has the same basic properties as the one i just described maybe a bigger hard drive
now if you want to be a gamer, you want a laptop that is pre-built from one of the better gaming brands out there. i would personally recommend that you get one from alienware or ABS or go to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and just browse for gaming computers. now if you want, you can have one custom built but they may not tell you that you can run into hardware clashes where ou could be using a nvidia board with a ATI graphics card. it will cause a visual clash on start up. if you have any other ? email me at shorty9259@gmail.com

use it for School, Movies, Music, Internet get one now.
P.s: Your laptop regardless or how well you treat it will be broken in around 5 years.
