Is Democracy beginning to fail in the United States?

I'd like some of your thoughts and opinions, also: If Democracy does fail, what will life be like post democracy? Thanks.

Democracy is almost lost in the United States.

It's a shame that we call ourselves American; if our Founding Fathers took a glimpse of how our government is currently treating us: how Americans are being robbed daily to house felons, how our civil liberties are being swept away, how our country is forcing democracy on a far away country that never asked for our help--that, my friends, is the exact opposite of democracy. Icons like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin would surely slap the Constitiution across our faces.

Democracy is an institution for and by the people. Forcing democracy on any group of people will always fail. We are now an imperialistic country that is willing to exploit any country that has the means we need.

Democracy?
Look at Guantanamo Bay. Look at the prisoners that are likely to spend the rest of their lives behind bars without even knowing why they're there. The are "suspected terrorists" that have no rights to trial by jury, no right to a lawyer, not even the right to contact anyone that remotely cared about them. They are continuously tortured because of the Bush Administration, and even though efforts are being made by several organizations to free these captives, it seems as though the public's voice is lost. Why is this happening? Because the American people are ignorant and selfish.

Look deeper into American life now and you'll already see post democracy. If profanity is used in some public places, you'll be asked to leave. We cannot say anything that will offend policemen. Newspapers are restricting evidence from the public! Soon, America will fall and we will be the cause of our demise.

The funny thing is is that I'm an American, I'm only 17. And I know more about how our rights are being taken away than most people in their 20s.

First of all it can't fail in the United States because the United States is not a Democracy for the 1000th time. The UNited States is a Representative Republic. A Democracy is everybody votes on every issue and majority rules.

In USA, so far so good. Unlike other parts of the world controlled by dictators. The unpopular Bush will be gone in less than two years. No coup needed, just the well oiled gears of the republic. Government is messy and frustrating, but it works. Unlike Korea and Taiwan you never see American politicans throwing chairs in the hallowed halls of congress. Failing my foot!

democracy isn't beginning to fail, it already has. people don't seem to realize it. democracy is a failed system to begin with, but our capitalist society has made it far worse. life is like this post democracy. you have to work for menial wages, even being incapable of working and then when you elect people to do your wishes they do the exact opposite of waht you want them to do

Why don';t you get your butt off the settee and do something instead of complaining- all of it starts off with one inspired man or woman. Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Ghandi, Hitler- do those names recommend something to you? that they had a imaginative and prescient (granted some have been undesirable) and tenacity to do something that they believed in, and adjusted the worldwide- for the solid or the undesirable, yet replaced nontheless! close up- quit whining and get a existence!

However, the last Congressional election results have made me optimistic that this country has not become an elitist dictatorship.
