I heard this from someone but I haven't found it posted anywhere. I guess I don't care either way but I find it strange since I distinctly remember Al Gore going on and on in his 2000 nomination speech how his sister was addicted "to the evils of tobacco" or something. Now a leading Democratic contender, Obama, has a smoking addiction? Wouldn't that just step right into the whole "politicians are hypocrites" statement?

ok some clarification...I am NOT the one saying I wouldn't vote for him b/c of this!!!
Why are people so damn quick to attack on this?!?! What I'm saying is that I remember Gore campaigners WHO ARE DEMOCRATS saying how horrible smoking was, not just 8 years later they might nominate someone who SMOKES!!! It just might come across to some people as hyprocrisy. I COULD CARE LESS!!!

well nobody is perfect however the worse scenario
here Obama he's going to lose elections vote
just because he smoke a pack a day!! logic of Americans

this is how America people choose who will be the next president
and that is the reason why then we have so many problems

Bush's administration is a living evidence to how people choose the wrong man

I will vote for who can put back my country in the right direction
and I will choose the candidate in base on how he or she going
to do the job for America people and I will not jeopardize
my decision base on bad republican propaganda in order
to destroy the credibility of democrats candidate..

Why would Al Gore saying the evils of tobacco make Obama a hypocrite for smoking. I am failing to see your correlation

Yes, he smokes. How much? I have no idea. I figure that smoking does not constitute a barrier to the presidency. I am sure he won't be smoking on the children's program "Sesame Street" or publicly at any of his campaign appearances. Since Barack Obama did not make the statement about "the evils of tobacco," he is not beholden to it, nor does it make him a hypocrite.

Huh?

That doesn't make any sense. You think Obama is a hypocrite because you think he might possibly be doing the opposite of something Al Gore said???

You must have gotten tired of picking on his middle name and can't think of anything intelligent to say to attack him.

Obama grow to be once a collection smoker, yet he initiate quitting! i trust he shrink his cigarette intake. i ought to assert that left wings attempt to regulate too many stuff, yet they could't self-discipline themselves. Smoking is area of the problem in the society, left says cleanser ecosystem, yet they smoke, they don't recycle, and they love driving their vehicles ,etc.
