At 6 week old your baby should be waking up to feed during the night. Her digestive system is still young and is not ready for cereal yet. Sounds like you are over tired but you'll be overtired and upset when she has a stomach ache and is crying all night.

My mother in law harped on this subject forever and against my wishes gave my two month old cereal when he was 4 weeks old. Do you know how I found out? He cried most of the night with a stomach ache he kept drawing his legs up and his face would turn so red. Your baby is a little too young and can'[t handle cereal right now especially formula fed infants b/c there is iron in both and can tend to make them constipated. The baby won't sleep longer they simply cannot hold more than two hours worth of food in their belly that little. If sleep is an issue try to swaddle him when you lay him down it gives a better sense of security and they will usually sleep better at that age. The only time cereal is recomended before 4-6 months is if there is excessive spitting up. It's tough but they do start sleeping longer when they can hold more milk. Just have a little patience it's not forever

I'm with everyone else here and say NONE. My granddaughter is 2 months old and she has been on formula and rice cereal added since she was 2 weeks old due to the fact that she has reflux with is now being treated with combination of the formula and rice and medication. I can tell you from experience that IT does NOT help them sleep all night. They make a formula that has rice added look for it when you go get the formula for your baby. I cant recall the name of it but its made by Enfamil. I think the initials are AR on the cans. Good luck with the sleeping all night, maybe just try the AR formula and see if it works for your baby,
Now if your baby spits up a good bit of the formula that you are feeding her/him then talk to the pediatrician and they will tell you what to do from there because you want the baby to gain weight but not alot to become obese that is the only time I would introduce any solids to a baby, under a pediatricians advice. My grands pediatrician says around 4 months maybe try rice with bananas and then go from there it really depends on whether she is sitting up without support then whether or not she has anything then.

It is not recommended to give a baby anything but breastmilk or formula for the first 6 MONTHS of life. Otherwise, you run the risk of that child developing allergies. Babies at 6 weeks old should be waking up every few hours to eat... They're bellies are about the size of a gumball at 6 weeks, so they need to be refilled fairly often. Babies can be several months old before they start to sleep through the night, and even then, 5 hours is considered through the night according to pediatricians. You may want to try co-sleeping, or placing the baby in a bassinet in the same room, that way you won't have to wake yourself fully in order to feed her; you can just lie her on the bed next to you and nurse, or you can trade of every few nights to bottle feed, maybe every 3 or 4 nights trade with her dad to do the nightly feedings.

At 6 weeks old you shouldn't be giving cereal, 6 week olds don't sleep through the night. If you are wanting to give cereal talk to the baby's Doctor, but little babies like that need to eat a lot and they will not sleep through the night.

I wanted to put cereal in my babys formula too because i was tired and wanted to sleep throu the night. BUT my pediatrision said that every baby is different but babies should only be fed formula or breast milk untill 6 months of age.

My daughter just turned 6 months and she is sopossed to have 1/4 cup of cearal 2 times a day, 1/4th fruit 2 times a day, 1/4 vegie 2 times a day and 3-5 bottles.

So you should not give her anything untill your doctor says
Maybe you should not have her sleep after 6 oclock untill your ready for bed. maybe she will sleep longer

Do not put any cereal in a six week old's milk. She cannot handle the cereal right now. The best guide for feeding is your pediatrician. Babies at six weeks do not sleep all night. Don't panic eventually they will. I recommend taking turns with your spouse to sleep and feed so both get the rest you need.

None. Six week olds are NOT going to sleep all night, no matter what you try. They're not programmed to. Their bodies are programmed to be up every few hours to feed - because they have tiny tummies that can only hold so much.

Putting cereal in a bottle will set you up for any one of a number of problems. They can choke on it. They can develop food allergies. They can develop other digestive problems. You CAN NOT give solid foods before six months of age.

NONE!
It is not realistic to expect a 6 week old baby to sleep through the night. Her stomach is too tiny to hold enough, and she needs to be fed often to grow properly.

So many parents just want to hurry through this stage so they can get a full night of sleep themselves. So they resort to cereal in the bottle... it may or may not work, but what it does do is put something with less nutritional value (cereal) in place of something with very good nutritional value(formula). So in reality, you are taking nutrients away from your baby when you put cereal in the bottle.

Babies learn to sleep through the night at all different ages, but one thing they have in common is that they need to weigh 10 pounds or more in order to sleep 6 or 7 hours through.

Please don't dilute the formula with cereal. I know lack of sleep is a terrible inconvenience, but your baby will be healthier for life if you provide the best nutrition for her in the first year.

NONE you should never put anything but milk in a bottle. 6 weeks is too soon for solids 4 months at the earliest. Go and see the gp before doing this please. You should still be getting up during the night to feed your baby at 6 weeks. I hope this isnt a selfish thing so you dont have to get up at night- i doubt it would work anyway.
