Chester William Nimitz was the Commander in Chief of Pacific Forces for the United States and Allied forces during World War II.
He was his country's last surviving Fleet Admiral.

Chester Nimitz. A great but modest man.
A guy once told me that as a kid, he's been allowed to visit Nimitz's house while his widow was still there. He saw a photo of Macarthur and said to his friend, 'I thought Nimitz didn't like Macarthur.' 'HATED HIM!' said Mrs Nimitz.

Admiral Nimitz was the naval commander - he also was the one in charge of the North theatre of the war whilst Gen. MacArthur was in charge of the southern land push.
