No. Plain and simple.
Runway modelling is not about equal opportunity.
Just like in any other job, it's about hiring the best person for the task. That's why fighter pilots have to have 20/20 vision and customer service reps have to be good with people. You wouldn't want a hospital hiring a surgeon who was narcoleptic just because it's not fair that the narcoleptic can't do the job they want to.
Runway models don't wear the clothes that are sold to stores - they wear couture, and couture hangs best on bodies that are tall and superthin. It's not about making clothes for real people; runways are more a display of ideas and imagination than anything. You'll see the *essence* of the pieces that will be released but it's more like artwork than clothing. Designers shouldn't have to change their creative ideas just to accomodate the hangers - it has to go the other way around.
It doesn't matter that you can't change it - that's just how it is. Someone who is shorter is just not the best person for the job, and when so much money is riding on the presentation, designers won't settle for anything less than the best.
There's nothing wrong with being shorter than 5'8" - in fact, casting agents for commercials won't hire any women over 5'8" because they want the men to be taller.
Every group has a niche of sorts, and regardless of fairness or not, you just kind of have to live with it. You can't sacrifice quality for fairness. Obviously, if someone's physical attributes have no bearing on their ability to perform the job then they should have equal opportunity, but in a field like runway modelling where the body *is* the talent, there's no argument.

Well, I am 5'9", 125lbs, and a model but I model with women of all shapes, sizes, and heights. The modeling industry is very screwed up because they have so many rules, regulations, and restrictions it is crazy. They give you the impression that you have to be a walking toothpick and weigh 30 lbs to walk down the runway. A lot of modeling agencies need to open their eyes and realize that all women are not 5'8" and taller and they miss out on a lot of talent from the women they reject. My best friend is 4'11" and she can rip the runway just I can. It should not matter how tall you are, just be confident, be yourself, and have fun!

To me it would depend on how there figure is! maybe they could getaway with being 5'6 if ya had a long slim shaped thy and hip area and maybe a bit of a more elongated torso, but you'd be lucky to have one, anyway what im basically trying to say is it does kind of matter how tall they are but to me it mostly depends on there figure, cause i mean you could have a 5'9 person who is so pretty nice eyes nice hair but then has this frumpy figure thats okay for her but not for modeling so you see it depends more so on the figure than the height though it is taken into deep consideration
About 20% of the people who would make a great model because of there figure and shape, get replaced by taller people just so they look better i say sista anyone who deserves it and feels there beautiful can model dont give me that size 2 crap
size 2 women half to work there butts off to keep there image matched with there size and miss out there food i mean theres a difference between modeling and dieting just take it from me

Let the tall girls have the runways.
If you are shorter you can still do quite well modeling for print ads, catalogs, and even commercials. They are often looking for people of all different sizes and ages. Face & hair, hand, leg & foot modeling, where your overall height does not come into play, are other opportunities awaiting you.
If it's your dream to be a model, don't give up. All it may take is readjusting your sights a little.

Yeah its kind of mean, I mean short people wear nice clothes too! But my opinion is that models are way too skinny, and cause a big influence on girls because they'll see them and be like "oh there so skinny", besides models can't eat whatever they want, or they can but they have to lose the calories right after.

i think people who are 5'7 and over should be runway models. However, usually runway models are 5'10-6'1.
