One good reason for standing up for yourself is if you are doing something that you know is the right thing to do and people put you down for it. In your heart you know that you have done a good thing so, you should stand up for yourself.

The process by which one experiences their true nature allows for a genuine essence of what one believes to become expressed. By standing up for a cause and a specific conviction in a controversial topic or even a small minuet concern breeds a flow personal creativity which is the basis of human nature and the progressive theme of all mankind.

There is a double effect if you don't stand up for yourself.
1. Of course, you will miss out on things, like credit for a job well done, physical things like money or other goods that are rightfully yours, or you'll be blamed for things that you don't deserve, or people will take advantage of you, which will seperate you from some of your belongings, or your dignity, or your self esteem.
2. On top of the things listed above, if people know you don't stand up for yourself, they will actually go out of their way to exploit this fact and you'll be taken advantage of even more. It's like a snowball effect, and a self-fullfilling cycle. The more you give in, the more people take.

For starters, there are many times when you are alone and if you don't stand up for yourself, you're going to be taken advantage of in many ways. Some of them will be inconvenient, some will be embarrassing, some will be dangerous!!

Build your self-esteem. Don't let someone put you down and make you feel bad about yourself. You know who you are and if you are happy with it that's good enough.
