Even in North India, in Rajasthan etc, moustaches are still a symbol of ""HE MAN"nism., but as you said correctly, it is only the Hindi filmdom ruined our ancient culture of having moustaches, as they prefer to copy the westerners in this regard. If you visit any museum whether it is South or North, you can still find the portraits of Rajahs of India having big moustaches, irrespective of the region they belong.
