well, I'm an avid reader, so I've read my share of books both good and bad. The people up above....well, some of them are crazy. Romeo and Juliet is an absolute masterpiece and the Picture of Dorian Grey is an amazing story about how ugly someone can be on the inside, even if they look good on the outside. Frankenstein is one of my absolute favorites.

Anyway, getting back to the point.....

the WORST book I've read was either:

1. The Heart of Darkness (I am not a Joseph Conrad fan)
or
2. The Life of Pi (I hate those "Ooops, it was all a dream!" endings....they make me pretty mad for wasting my time).

I really dont read bad books. I'm not being egocentric. I just dont have time to waste on bad books so I always do a small amount of research first. Also if a book is bad after the first few chapters I stop and move on to something better.

Ulysses, Frankenstein, Romeo and Juliet, and The Picture of Dorian Gray were all excellent books, you people have no taste.

Sherwood Forest by Lisa Croll DiDio is the most recent. That book made me gag with all the love scenes.

Another would have to be Parsival Or A Knight's Tale by Richard Monaco. It has a completely misleading description on the back of the book.

The Day My Butt Went Psycho. This really is the title of the book. My son got it as a gift. It's about a guy who's butt runs away, and how he gets it back. It's horrible. To the person who hated Life of Pi, the ending is not just that Pi woke up from a dream. The story he created is how he coped with the horrible things that happened to him. It's not just some cheap, soap opera trick. You have to go a little deeper than that. It was a great book.

The Broken Crown by Michelle West. Actually, I'm still in the process of trying to read it, and having a very hard time convincing myself to keep going. It's taken me about 3 weeks to get halfway because I keep finding other things I'd rather be doing than reading that book. LOL Sheer stubbornness is keeping me going though.

I would have to say "The Canterbury Tales." We had to read it in high school, and it was enough to turn you off on reading altogether. The other book I hated, although less, is "Sound and the Fury" and close behind "Catcher in the Rye." I know other people like these 2 but I did NOT).

Never have had a bad book. Some are hard to read like Shakespeare. The effort to read Shakespeare, even though it's one of the best, means I don't read it much, so I guess that's it. Gotta do it though. There's gotta be a translation. That book, like the Bible, comes back to you when you hit bottom. Of course when you hit bottom in emotions it's 95% fake, imagination.

I can't say I've read a bad book. If I pick up a book and it does not grab my attention 100 pages in, I get rid of it.

Ghost Story, by Stephen King and Peter Straub. Simply dreadful reading. King needs to never collaborate, especially with mediocre writers, including his wife, who is also an awful writer.
