As a healthcare provider who performs gynocological exams everyday, I find you and your question interesting. As a guy, trying to think from a woman's point of view, how do you suppose an erect penis looks to the average girl??as opposed to a spectulum?? Seriously, no woman 'likes' a gynocological exam. I try my best to make my patients feel comfortable as possible. I explain everything I am doing and I also start by letting her see and examine a speculum and tell her why it's necessary. Additionally....since I am in family practice and see all ages of people...and see men...and everyday I also do prostate exams.....it interests me to see men's reaction to me telling them that they must have an annual prostate exam. I usually can relieve their anxiety by telling them that at least I don't have to put them in stirrups..and if they think they have it bad they should talk to thier wife or girlfriend. If all else fails......as a man thinking about how women must 'freak' by a spectulum....have a baby then talk to us women...

They aren't scary. They are shaped appropriately for what they are used for. They're designed to fit the area just like a male organ. They are manufactured in different sizes (diameters) for different sized/aged gyn patients.
Why does it scare you? It's a medical tool that's been in use for many years.
As you'll see in the link below, there are many medical speculums for different applications.

Ugh, I hate speculums! Yeah, they scare me too. I hate how it opens and closes. I always get scared that they're going to stretch too far and then mess me up somehow. Plus, they are very uncomfortable. I complain the whole time, lol. :-)

No, it doesn't scare me. It used to when I was younger...like I could literally HEAR the doctor cranking that beast open after it was inserted. LOL. It's not so bad now.
I must give you a lot of respect for being sensitive to our plight. That's rare...and very nice! Do you have a brother? Haha!! J/K.

They are actually smaller than most guys penises, even when fully open. I've had bigger dildos.
They can be a bit cold if the doc hasn't run it under warm water first.

As long as the doctor knows enough to warm it before he uses it, I'm fine with it.

They aren't that bad. The doctor uses a lubricant like KY jelly for easier insertion.
But thanks for thinking of us girls. Remember this when you have your first prostate exam. We have to start so much earlier than you guys do with showing our privates.
