My partner is a GP because he likes the thrill of seeing all sorts of things every day. One patient is for a script for blood pressure tablets the next is a pap smear and the next is for a cut finger that needs suturing. He needs to be a "jack of all trades", where as a specialist (although they earn alot more money) just speacialises in one thing.

Good luck with the studying, being involved in the medical field is challenging and can be tough on family and personal relationships, but we definately need more in the world

Obstetrician-delivers babies
Gynecologist-deals with women's reproductive health issues
Most docs who in one of the above specialize in both
Orthopedics deal with bones-hip replacements, knee replacements etc.
Cardiovascular-deals with the heart and blood vessels
Neurologist-The brain and the nerves
Gastroenterologist- The digestive system
Pediatrics-children to age 18
ENT -ears nose and throat doctors
G.P.-general practitioner, a family doctor
Psychiatrist-mental health issues
Ophthalmologist-eye specialist
Thoracic surgeon- lungs
Gerontologist-specializes in old people
Those are the one's I can think of right off the top
