Cambridge is in England to person who asked. I never read about that. I suppose swans are a source of meat the same a ducks. I would think it was illegal to do that. We will lose all out wild life at this rate. Never tasted swan! This is what comes of letting people in who do not have jobs.

It is illegal - you are correct. The queen owns all swans, thank God. They are such graceful creatures. Unfortunately not all new 'guests' of the country realise this, as reported somewhere in a paper some time ago, about someone taking a swan from the Lea Valley River -

Not all swans are owned by the queen, those with a nick in the beak are not, but someone else owns them.

Her Maj owns all swans, and only she may taste the delicacy.
Also she automatically owns any whales landed on British shorelines (for the ambergris), the coast line and items washed ashore, items dug up from years ago too (Roman artifacts) but there is some special rules about that one regarding depth...
