It also weighs a lot. Are you talking about off the line? Because these cars shine during freeway passing. It's slow from a stop but if you just punch it at around 60 you will soon be in the triple digits. These cars also don't have the best BMW suspensions but they are built for braking and turning. Go and get all the fluids changed, get new air, oil and fuel filters and disconnect the battery to erase everything that might be stored in the car's computer (some of them will program itself to drive the way its previous owners wanted it to, hence the slowness). Make sure you have the radio code before doing the battery and drive it around for a week or two. If its still not as peppy as you would like look into get an E.A.T. or Dinan computer chip that should net you almost 20 horse power for a couple hundred dollars, well worth it because it really opens up your engine.

I have a blue Z3 1996 with the little four cylinder and it will make granny swallow her dentures. First run at least 2 tanks of gas through it that have been fortified with jet cleaner. (ask for it at any auto parts store.) If ti hat does not fix it get a tune up from a reputable dealership. My Z3 has an automatic transmission and she will be doing 70 when she hits the top of the entrance ramp onto I27 and 19th street in Lubbock TX. That is less than 150 feet.

Convertibles are noisier than regular cars cuz instead of a metal roof, you've got some fabric.
The 2.3 is a relatively small engine in a heavy german car. It's not going to be a speed demon. I have a 325 and while it's supposed to have the same 0-60 as my old Camry, it feels slower.
If you wanted some speed, you should have gotten the 2.8 or 3.0L engine.
