I get endless pop-ups that look VERY similar to MS warnings and direct me to one of several web sites (regproscan, msreg to name of of the 9).

It started with IE warnings and when I reported 8-9 my C drive crashed! I have reloaded my op system etc. on a backup drive because BIOS doesn't even see my C drive even with a manual load.

I figure that it's in autoexec.bat or config.sys as a hidden file.

DO NOT DNLD the software because it will give them access to ALL your passwords and perhaps TOTAL control of your computer or network. If you use on-line banking, say goodbye to your accounts.

I am going to try to find these guys and turn them into the AG! Any help with an IP or the like would be appreciated.

***********YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT BROKEN UNLESS THEY DO IT TO GET YOUR ATTENTION************* Mine works fine except for the annoying pop-ups! BEWARE.

Thanks,
J

Make sure to read Disabling Messenger Service in Windows XP from the Microsoft website if you run XP and get popup messages. (If you get them while running a firewall you did NOT configure your firewall correctly!)

part of your problem is you run IE, and not Firefox, so you got malware installed in your computer...

get the following, all are free for a safe surfing experience,
install in SAFE mode with networking ( hit F-8 at boot time ), run them all in SAFE mode
with networking as you'll need it for the updates all the programs below will need.

ANTI VIRAL

AVG (free) http://free.grisoft.com/

FIREWALL

ZoneAlarm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

WEB BROWSER - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox

EMAIL use thunderbird. It has a good built in spam filter and learns when you teach it. http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird

SPYWARE

and if you have a wireless router follow these tips,

1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it's less crackable then WEP.

2. Make a passphrase that is upper & lower case and has some numbers thrown in there as well, again harder to crack.
some like mAkE1t5eCurE0rel53 and as long as possible.

3. Use MAC access control so only you or authorized PC's can connect (even if you do have encryption turned on)

4. Turn off DHCP use static addresses.

5. Turn off SSID (and change it) unless your card really needs it (some do)

6. Change username/password of access unit front end

7. Ensure you have the usual firewall enabled on your PC.

8. Paranoia rules, turn WLAN off if your not using it :)

one last tip
control panel---administrator tools--services--messenger

right clik on it
stop the service
then disable it
save changes

You have spyware. CounterSpy v.2 has just been released. This is arguably the most powerful anti-spyware program available. It runs rings around any freeware you care to mention as well as most paid programs. It costs very little ($19.95) but the best thing is that you can try it for free for 15 days. So, to get rid of spyware, adware, malware, trojans and keyloggers, etc., try it, you won't be disappointed.

These popups are part of spyware programs installed on your computer. To scan your computer for spyware, download either Spybot Search & Destroy or Adaware (see links below). Both of these are free programs that will help you get your computer back to its normal. You probably also have viruses on your computer. These can be fixed by downloading Grisoft's free AVG (from http://free.grisoft.com/).

Sara is ideal in declaring that it appears that evidently like your pc notifying you yet isn't your pc. domicile windows would not notify of viruses because there is not any anti-virus equipped into it. almost continually, a notification that pops up and would not come out of your put in anti-virus software is an attempt to achieve get admission to on your pc - maximum ideal aspect to do is close them down utilising your pc controls and not in any respect the controls on the window because they are regularly reprogrammed to position in viruses; certain, this incorporates the X in the right actual of the window. both: carry the Alt key down and then press F4... OR actual-click on the window's icon on your taskbar and choose close. For goodness' sake, do not keep on with Greg's advice to the letter!! be conscious that a number of his strains bring about ... He wouldn't have known that once a "note" is basically too lengthy, Yahoo shortens it and places ... quite of a few thing else of the "note." you are able to keep on with the advice for ones that do not end like that, besides the undeniable fact that. i'm of an similar opinion as Golfer - it does sound like this aspect has been there from the starting up - grow to be this a sparkling or second-hand pc? Makes me ask your self if someone grow to be taking area in round on the keep and did not understand that they ought to not enable that aspect to position in. both that or this methodology you aspect out has a very similar call to a properly-known, (or per chance I ought to assert "notorious") virus software. I advise utilising Malwarebytes and Kapersky as has already been reported and there are some hyperlinks in my profile which will be useful too; one in each and every of them is to a pandemic cleansing handbook at important Geeks - no longer fairly particular if I keep in suggestions seeing someone had given you a link to the Bleeping pc one and they are both solid. signal in to between the forums appropriate from my profile in case you nonetheless want help after cleansing your pc with one in each and every of those publications - the persons who help at those forums are solid. in case you submit at important Geeks, i understand the rule of thumb is submit, then wait - do not undergo invite if someone has seen it yet because that is in a itemizing and they are going to get to you so as of oldest submit so including a sparkling submit drops you again to the bottom of the record.

Something similar to this infected my brother's computer. It got past Symantec antivirus. The only way we got it off was by scrubbing the hard drive and reinstaling WINDOWS.
