i'm trying to decide if its worth the investment to get rechargeable batteries or not. it will cost about $40 up front but i won't have to buy D batteries ever again.

i'm due in march and this is my first baby so i dont' know. i know all swings are probably different and it will depend on how often we use the swing. i have a fisher price cradle swing.

Just buy normal batteries first. Your baby might not like the swing.
I found that we wen through 4-D batteries per month. We only used the swing for about 3 months.

We to have the same swing and we spent the $$ and got rechargeable!!I would highly suggest this,if you use it 2 hours a day which we did at the very minimum especially when they are newborn you will replace them twice a week!Be sure to buy at least 8 batteries so you will never be without. We also have the fisher price aquarium for the crib and it uses 3 D batteries as well as the fisher price aquarium bouncy chair which uses 1 D for the vibrator and 3 D's for the activity centre!
Our son is now almost 6 months old and we still put him in the swing when he is really cranky due to teething!!We have 18 batteries.

I bought the Fisher Price Power Plus Swing

Runs on batteries or electricity. I just used it plugged in, so, I've never replaced the batteries.

i have a 2 year old an he goes though allot of toys with batteries. i would defiantly invest in rechargeable batteries. i would buy them slowly though they are fairly expensive. but in the long run they are less expensive. i mean look! a package of cost about 5 bucks they last say 6 months. then u have a package of that u can recharge for as mean as 2 years! i mean do the math. i did! and the charger is a one time buy if its taken care of!

With my son's vibrating chair we went through about 8 battery's a month so we change them about 2 times a month since it took 4 D battery's (we got rid of the chair too much money for battery's)
