I would recommend starting by taking an introductory class in Archaeology from your local junior college (if time constraints make this difficult you can find junior colleges which offer online classes and can register from any state). Then, if you still think this is the career for you, volunteer to go on a dig with a team from a local university. They are usually always looking for unpaid volunteers to help out and you could use the experience in the field to really gauge whether or not you want to go back to school (which you will have to do eventually). To get paid work on digs you have to get a masters degree at the very least and to actually manage and lead your own explorations you will need a Ph.D. Good luck!
