when you know for a fact they are able bodied ,i mean to tie them up ouch!!! omg it must be sooo uncomfortable for them to work like that

They film with a blue (or green) screen in the background and whatever part of their body is "missing" is covered in the exact same match of blue (or green) fabric. So when they edit it, the part covered in blue (or green) blends in with the background and looks as though it's missing.

Watched a programme about making Born on the Fourth of July and it showed you how they did it. Similar to the blue screen method where they change it with computer generated imagery.

Many times they cover them in a blue cloth which during editing can be made invisible.

I think they hire actors that are willing to amputate for the sake of the role.
