I want a pet. I would have a cat but I am super allergic to them, same with ferrets and rabbits. I want a pet that will be ok to be alone for about 5 hrs a day monday-friday. Any ideas?

I'm a Exotic animal tech. at a Vet hospital. I see all kinds of animals from horses to rats. Exotic animals are all other animals than cats, dogs, and fish.
I would totally recommend a rabbit. I have 3 myself. But i can see that you have Allergies. HAve you tried allergy shots? they are extremely good and all health insurance covers that. there are also some rabbits that have just guard hairs and don't shed, so there is no dander which is what you are allergic too. some of the breeds are:dutch and rex, there are a few others.
But if that idea is off the table id get an anole, easy to take care of, and cheap too as well.

Well i am a dog lover. So i would strongly suggest a dog. Because whenever you come home they are sitting right there waiting for you. And when you get there they act like they havnt seen you in ages.

I think that your should get a pot-bellied pig. They are intelligent and clean and I think they could be left alone for that amount of time as long as you give it some attention when you are home.

Why not a rat? I know it sounds disgusting, but they are smart (so you can litterbox train them) attentive (they enjoy being with you) and they have distinct personalities. Just tell all your freinds its a mouse, most people don't know the difference anyway.

In my opinion a small bird, one whose chirp you can stand listening to, would be your best bet. Such as a parakeet or small cockatiel.
