The basics of it work this way: if you have light skin with pink-undertones, yellowish-olive skin, or dark African-American skin with black, ash brown, or ash or light blonde hair then you have a cool skintone. Cool skintones tend to have blue, green, grey, or very dark brown eyes. Warm skin tends to have yellow or peach undertones, golden or reddish tones to their haircolor, (i.e. golden blonde, golden brown, auburn, etc.) and can have blue, green, hazel, or golden brown eyes. Neutral skintones are very rare, and contain a combination of both cool and warm tones. Warm and cool skintones are further broken down into seasons, which I won't go into here as I don't want to write you a book. lol There are a few other things you can consider to help determine your skintone. For instance, do you look better in silver or gold? White or ivory? If you said silver and white, then you have a cool tone. If you said gold and ivory then your skin is warm. This also works for those with slightly darker skintones. Look at the veins on your inner wrist. Do they appear blue, or more of a bluish green? If they just look blue then you have a cool skintone. If they're greenish in color then you have a warm one. Hope that helps!

Anyone can be warm or cool. What warm tends to denote is a golden undertone. People of the lightest to the darkest skin tone can be warm, and these folks tend to look better in gold jewelry than silver, for example. Cool is a pinkish undertone for the most part, bluish and red for the deeper complexions, and they tend to look better in silver.

I have a warm complexion, and colors like copper, bronze, and amber look best on me. My mother, on the other hand, has a cool one, and looks best in pink and light brown.

Have you seen that Prescriptives magazine ad where they have these different stripes of foundation colors on a girl's cheek? You can go to their counter and they'll do that on you, and they will identify what tone you are. Cool means light and fair, usually the natural blonde or red head with ivory to light beige complexions. Neutral is light to medium but with no red or yellow to the skin tone. Warm tones can be full range of skin shades that have yellow or gold undertones, usually natural brunettes to dark hair types. But other companies can find your skin tone too. Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome or Merle Norman, all could help you find your tone.

The two classifications for beauty in "warm vs. cool" and "spring, autumn, winter, fall" have proved to be USELESS for beauty. They are not complete or scientific.
The human skin color go from very light to very dark, and we can divide it in 2 basic, white and dark. These have sub classifications too, but basically, when choosing your colors, choose those that make a big contrast with your skin color.
