Burton is not "the best" as most people say. There are plenty of companies out there who produce boards that are just as good. Burton's prices are usually alot higher than most companies, thats why people think they are better, which really isnt true unless were talking about their powder boards that are 500 dollars and up, which do stand out above the rest, but unless your going to be snowboarding down mount everest, theres plenty of good brands out there.

All three of the companies are JUST as good as burton when it comes to freestyle boards. I personally would recommend the Rome Artifact or Rome Agent. They are really the best boards ive ever ridden in my life, they are both geared towards freestyle but they can handle most of the other mountain too, including pipe and park jumps. Academy and Ride are also really good boards, but I really dont think they can stand up to the two Rome boards I mentioned above. Check them out if your into freestyle.

Ride and Rome are both excellent makes i can't really comment on Academy as ive never ridden one and don't know anyone that has but that doesent mean that they are not good. But if i had to rate those three makes one to three i would have Academy third for the reason ive just mentioned, and would have Ride just above Rome as even though board wise they are about equal Ride make better bindings than Rome and for that reason id put them first. As alot of people have already said Burton are not the best just the most hyped and the people that rate them so highly have generally never ridden any other makes of board and are more concerened with image than actual riding. This isent to say that Burton don't make good products they do, its just that there are alot more good companys out there, who make good products that may well suit you better at a lot cheaper price.

Again...Burton is not the best but not bad. I have experienced all of them except for Academy. I went through about 12 boards and I can tell ya that Rome is the best board ever. I have a Rome anthem so I can tell ya that I can pull stuff on that board like no other. I'm not sure what the rumor is though, but I heard that that Rome was made by bunch guys from Burton and some other companies who left their own. It is supposed to be the best boards out there. Again its a rumor, I'm not sure. I did some research with Rome, by finding blogs and some other info around the world and Rome came up alot as far as awesome boards. I just got back from Switzerland about a month ago and some guys I met absolutely love Rome. About.com ranks it one of the best...you can look it up. I dunno who these people are but again that name ROME came up. More Specifically Rome Anthem...CHECK EM OUT...My personal ranking...Rome, Ride, Burton.....Oh yea by the way Rome is real good as far as $$$...but not too cheap

I don't know about Academy, but Ride is better than Rome.

This is based on personal experience - everyone has quirks that make them prefer one board over another, sometimes they find flaws on the same model boards!

Your board choice is determined by your riding style (freestyle/freeride/etc.), weight, boot size and (most importantly) budget, so I say go for the best you can afford.

Transworld Snowboarding comes out with a "Good Wood" board test every year - it's a good starting point to figure out what boards are the best.

Burton and Ride are made in the same factory lol, burton is not the best, every company has there ups and downs, burton is overpriced, all the boards mentioned are good, it's just up to you to decide which one you like and who fits your price range.....good luck...and i dont agree that burton has the best powder boards.....

as others mentioned, burton is not THE best. i have had experience with 5150, and they aren't the best, but not the worst either. they don't have as much flex as burton boards and other companies, but i manage with jumps and manuals. i cannot judge the other companies because i have not had experience with them.
