I've been there and done that with an electric dryer. It is safe, but some dust will get through the panty hose. Put a portable air cleaner in the room if you are worried about that.

Clean the lint/change the pantyhose regularly, though. Accumulated lint is flamable and the heating element in a dryer gets hot. You don't want to risk unwanted fire.

A friend of mine built a box that he could put window air conditioner filters into. The filters he used were washable foam so he could reuse them.

You will get a lot of humidity into the room! That can lead to the growth of mold on curtains, in carpets, or even on walls. Breathing the Mold can be harmful to your health. So you may want to get a dehumidifier.

You can also sometimes get irritating fumes from some of the dryer fabric softener sheets if you use those.

It's not just the dust. You're putting all that moisture that was in your wet clothes into your house, and raising the humitidy levels in the house. It may not be a problem in an older house which has all kinds of air leaks, but newer houses are very air tight. The extra humitidity can lead to mold and mildew. It's not that hard to have a vent put to the outside. And you should NOT use plastic venting ... dryer lint is very flammable and if it should catch fire in the vent - a plastic vent will melt and catch your house on fire. So, for safety at many levels, you should vent your dryer outside.

I don't know if it is safe or not. But I had a dryer for four years while in university that exhausted through a nylon. I recommend cleaning the nylon regularly to avoid creating a heat trap.

When I was in my apartment, we had the washer hooked to the sink, draining in the tub, and the dryer in the closet on wheels. I used to pull it out, and put that huge silvery thing out the window. Seems much safer than no vent at all.

It's safe but crack a window open near by to let the steamy air out...Make sure you keep the panty liner clean.
