We are humans death is not avoidable it is one of the universal truths is our morality. We do things( which really could mean anything) more despite that we are going to die is more the truth.
We are all aware of our physical death but many believe the soul is immortal.

Yes I believe so. There is a theory that motivation comes down to survival (avoidence of death) of the genes. This can manifest itself in many behaviours - survival of ourselves, our families, peoples beneficial to us and ultimately the species.
However I'm not sure how the above theory accounts for activities that seem to go against survival instinct such as taking drugs, smoking and activities such as jumping out of parachuting etc...

It's to avoid the death of our genes. No - that's too negative. It's to propagate our genes as wildly and as widely as we possibly can. Being as we are human, for us that involves amassing resources, having sex, long term devoted nurture and lots of other things.
But shee-yut, who cares about that? Do good and be happy. If you focus on that you'll average out making a reasonable fist of the gene-propagation thing as well, and without worrying about it.

Schopenhauer's "Will to Live" : Self-Preservation :: Nietzsche's "Will to Power" : Pursuit of Happiness.
The former is but an aspect of the latter. Instinctually, speaking that is.

Everyone is born with the same goals. To be happy and avoid suffering. People believe to die is to suffer. It is feared because it is not understood.

We operate within an egocentric hierarchey that begins with ourself and the goes onto our family, our neighborhood, etc.
It is the love or fear of something that drives us.

This is a variation to the question, "what is the meaning of life?"
which appears unanswerable.
I would say we do things to fulfill our 'desires'.
as vain as that sounds.

no i think we are meant to die. it is probably good, because no matter how great we think we are, new life and new possibilities are important. self preservation is strong. because the will of life is strong, but once it expires it expires. no one knows the meaning of life and why we do things. it is probably something we wont see in our lifetime. i think we are evolving into something greater. in the future, we will probably look like cavemen. so in a way we are being used.
