My mum went for pregnancy scan and was told that she was pregnant. She was also told the baby was dead! At nine weeks old but my mum had no signs of a miscarrage and was taken in Darrent Vally Hospital to have the baby removed. The doctor said that it was not a miscarrage or an orbortion and the babies heart stopped at nine weeks. Does anyone know what happened and what it was caused by.

It was a miscarriage...she just hadn't naturally miscarried it yet. Her body would have rejected it...but often times doctors prefer to do the d&c (removal) to avoid other complications.

Most likely it was caused be a major abnormality (sometimes it is missing DNA or a genetic problem -sometimes they just call it a "bad egg" meaning it can't make a healthy baby...early miscarriages usually are. I lost a pregnancy at 10 weeks...but also 3 perfect healthy children. So if she wants another baby - this shouldn't stop her - miscarraiges happen about 1 in every 6 pregnancies so many of us women have been there :) She will make it through but it will be tough for now.

Our prayers are with your family in this time of loss. Hugs!!!

Genetics are a funny thing. The human body is complex, very complex and there is a lot that can go wrong with it. It is probably the case that one of the thousands of combinations in the DNA of the baby was not correct for it to have a fully working heart and it died. This is not a rare thing at all, an awful lot of babies die within days of being conceived because of a tiny genetic flaw somewhere in their DNA. Usually the woman does not even realise that she was pregnant when this happens after a few short days.

i'm sorry to hear this, but there is often no reason for this happening. some times things are just not ment to be. i went throught the same thing and kept thinking there must be a reason but according to doctors, nurses there was no reason just one of thoses things which is hard to accept.
