The really neat thing about the 230c.u.i.n, 250 c.u.i.n., small block, 396 c.u.i.n.,454 c.u.i.n. is they all have the same transmission bolt pattern, as long as they are chevy engines, there is also a dual bolt pattern G.M. tranny that will bolt to chevy, buick, and other G.M. engines. I have installed a 305 small block into a 454 big block truck, a 283 small block into a 250 straight six van, as well as many other types of chevy's, Man, I love those chevy's!

It will all bolt together.... yes the shift linkage will work because you are only changing the engine, not the transmission. Now you will need to change the motor mounts in the car that has the 250 mounts.

I do believe that you'll need a new bell housing, pressure plate, and pilot bearing. I dont think the bolt holes are going to line up together. Chevy has a site for cross references.
