Hammy has a cut on his foot!!?

i got my hamster one of these hamster hammocks (never buy them btw...death trap!) and Basil (the hamster) managed 2 wake the house up by screaming his little head off cuz he managed 2 get his foot caught in it some how. anywayz, my bf had to cut the poor bugger free and having only just caught him agn 2day (he bolted 4 it as soon as his leg was free) i've only just seen that my enstine bf has cut his foot, the vet said it was fine n just needed 2 b kept clean and told me how to clean him and i've done it very well once. unfortunatly the plonka's gone n manged 2 pee on his cut n got wood shavings n everything in it so i need 2 clean it agn, but he won't let me at him! i wuld ask bf 2 do it but he kinda got drunk n passed out at someones house. i'm pregnant and Basil donesn't seem to like my sent anymore n keeps trying 2 bite me, any ideas on how i can wash it wiv out gettin bitten 2 pices?

Congrats on being pregnant. I am as well Due in Aug :).

Anyway.....

Pick him up by the back of his neck. Like a mother dog or cat would to their young. He wont be able to bit you. Then use a small rag so you can hold him and dip his foot in some peroxide. You can even dip his foot while holding the back of his neck.

Also he should not be on wood shavings as they give small pets respiratory problems. I would recommend using Care fresh or Total Comfort. You can get both of those at your local Pet Smart or Pet Co. Remember change the bedding once a week.

Also make sure you give him fresh water and food daily. Also offer him carrots very day and parsley once a week.

Make sure he has plenty of chew sticks so his teeth don't get to long.
