My kid put a bunch of crickets in his hermit crabs' terrarium a while back. Can they harm the crabs? I know the crabs can eat small roaches, but I wonder if we should try and take out the crickets. Thank you.

yeah you should take them out. You shouldn't put crickets in they won't eat tthem the crickets will either hurt the crabs or the crickets will just make a mess of the tank.

I would becasue of the smell. crickets are dirty little guys PLUS hermit crabs are scavengers and do not hunt their prey. It is not the speed, it is that they do not kill prey.

They will eat dead ones if offered and in fact that is good for them. They need protiet, saying crickets have too much is ABSURD!!! Give them But not live ones.

Hermit crab in the wild eat everything from plant matter, rotting leaves and undergrowth, rotting and fresh fruits, dead bugs, and even dead fish and birds that wash up on shore and even droppings of other creatures!!! We feed our fresh fruits veggies whole grains, nuts, dried and fresh oak leaves, barks, dried cactus, dried feeder type bugs, dead fish, human grade meats and fish as well as a small ammount of commercial food that is all natural. (all commercial foods have tons of bad things like EQ in it, the only safe one is Gardener's Tree Crab FOod.)
They have to have protein in order to combat aggressions, aggressions are a sign of poor diet. over crowding and not enough shells.
Be careful listening to pet store owners and or workers, they rarley have the best interest of the animals in mind and do not thoroughly study the animals they sell. (otherwise it would have been an obvious incomplete answer to say to offer ramaine letttuce, some fruit and commercial food! That is a terrible diet and not complete at all, doesnt even come close to a near natural diet!)

yeah one of my employees put crickets in my hermit crabs tank, and the crabs ended up getting parasites. you should NOT put crickets in their, for a treat use some romaine lettuce or some fresh fruit. mix up their dry meals and keep them hyrdated. crickets have too much protein for the crabs and crickets are really unsanitary. so watch out. and for the employees goof up---he didnt last long.
