I just bought one at best buy for $699!
It was an awesome deal! It was a Gateway with 1 Gig of RAM, 120 Gig Hard Drive, Dual Core Processor and built-in wireless 802.11g.
I think you'd have a hard time beating that with the convienence of cash and carry! Oh, and I even went to Costco to check to "discount" prices... Ugh... don't even waste your time. Best Buy's Gateway laptop for $699 is the best BANG for the buck on the street this month!

Acer makes good quality laptops that are very cheap. alsp Toshiba. avoid Dell, Averatech and any brand you have not heard before. In most stores like BestBuy, CircuitCity, CopmUsa you can buy some laptop on sale for around $600 and maybe even less after rebates.

HP and Toshiba are really good and affordable. But the best deals are on ebay. I just got an awesome touch-screen laptop from ebay for only $300! Now you really can't beat that. :)>>

The DELL's are great and if you access their Outlet sales the returns or scratch 'n' dents are a good deal. Sundays sales had a fantastic deal (not a rebate) at Office Depot (top of line or close) for $500.....caught my eye

I saw a great deal in Office Depot today. It was a dual core notebook for $499. I don't think you can beat that.

Sony Vaio for $899.99 usd @ Radio Shack.
