I am an 11th grade student in America, and I was looking at McGill university in Montreal as a possible option. I was wondering what, if any, significant differences are there between the American system and the Canadian system.

Thanks

You will find most things at a Canadian university pretty recognizable. You might be surprised at how much less important athletics are at a Canadian university as compared to many US schools but that has to do with funding issues. We also tend not to use Freshman/Sophomore/Junior/Senior but "First Year, Second Year...etc" (though Freshman is fairly common). And of course no such thing as ROTC.
McGill's a great school and Montreal a great city (so long as you speak some French), good luck.

I can't tell you much except that my cousin's kids are in French emergence so they take classes in French and English. To go to University, they take 13 years of school not 12. At least this is the way it was as the last group came up through the grades. Right now the kids of the kids are in lower grades so I don't know how much has changed.

McGill University is an excellent school. If you are considering McGill, I would write them and get information directly from them as to what requirements they have for Americans applying for admission. Montreal is a very unique city with the old and new combined.
