Some plants need more light than others and also they may need fertilizers if they are a fast growing plant(s),Again depending on the plants, you may or may not need a heater, depending on the temp of the air that the tank is going to be in. You need to research the plants just like you should research any animals that yo have as pets. Your question is like asking if I can put mammals together in my house? Cats and dogs would be good in a house but tigers and elephants would not be, I think that you see where I am going with this.

Tall, thin fish, look good with tall, thin plants! Make sure the plants fit the conditions in your tank (pH, lighting), unless you're planning to upgrade. Pelleted fertilizers with iron are recommended for rooting plants.

try the anubias or java fern -- very easy to grow and you don't have to plant them so they can't dig them up.
i just got some on ebay the plants are really healthy but the shipping took like a month -- if you want to wait here is the seller --
