When we had angel fish, we could put black guppies in there, and sucker cat fish (to help clean the tank). Make sure the guppies are big enough so they don't get eaten.

Large tetras will nip at the angels long fins and botias/loaches do not eat algae.....

Angels do well in groups. They will pair off and you may get some breeding pairs if you start with 8-10. A 50 gallon tank would be perfect. A small school (5-6) of cory catfish would be a good addition. You could also add a couple bushynosed plecos (not common plecos). They do not grow large like the commons and will not bother anyone as they go about their business of cleaning up the uneaten food on the bottom and algae growing on surfaces in the tank. Cardinal tetras are a good companion for angels, they are larger than neons and hardier. The coloring is almost the same. They need groups too. 10-12 would be beautiful in a planted 50 with angels and a school of corys.

Angels are slow moving fish that swim in the mid to upper range of a tank. They like tall leafy plants and do not like fast moving fish in their tanks. I do, however, have 9 gold angels in a 29 gallon tank with 4 yoyo loaches. The loaches are always zipping around chasing each other, but it hasn't stopped the angels from spawning about once a month on a couple pieces of slate leaning against the ends of the tank. The yoyos are not agressive (except to snails) and never bother the angels.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions.

3 angels would do ok. You need soft water. Larger tetras will be ok, but not anything as small as neons or the angels will make a meal of them. Add a school of Botia loaches as you algae eaters.
