... i never hear about how great our soldiers are out there fighting for our great country, instead i hear again and again of how bad they are and how they are "evil" men/women. they have families and friends like us all, and they go out to war knowing they may not make it back home, not cause they want to go there, but because our government is choosing to fight.

its disgusting at how the british people treat our great army. i read one story in the paper about four soldiers coming back home for a break, and rent a house. next day they get attacked and are forced to move out, even THREATENED to be killed. why dont people realise that if these men and women dont fight on our behalf, then we'll all be dead.

This is one of the reasons the army are so under maned it's getting to the point they don't feel appreciated for anything, even when the fire service went on strike you only ever heard about people getting hurt, not that they were doing a fantastic job, the fire brigade can't save every-one but you don't hear about that in the papers everyday

I am a Vietnam Combat Veteran (Infantry) and came home from Vietnam wounded and crippled by the war. There were no parades, no banners, no well-wishers, no pats on the back waiting for me. All I've ever heard from those who were not there was that we lost the war. The truth is we had left Vietnam three years before Saigon fell but the cowards that were afraid to go needed to justify their action by saying it was an illegal unjust war and those who went were baby killers. Now that the younger generation has learned the truth about the Vietnam war, I do get some recognition for my service from them. A "Thank you for serving" is the most common. When you have an all volunteer army, you must be careful of those who would choose a combat roll. No sane person would ever want to be in combat. When atrocities occur, it is usually the psycho's that have joined the military to kill other humans and no other reason. This happens and it hurts the reputation of the other soldiers who are serving honorably.

Young lad near me was home on leave, went to protect some friends and he got stabbed by a drugy and died. No doubt drugy is still getting all the free perks that this country gives them.

I'm British, this is a rash generalisation you're making. I have enourmous respect for soldiers who'll risk their own lives for their country. I do however, think your president is an idiot.
