...just like these built? I know they were built during the Victorian or Edwardian era, but I'm trying to find out precisely which decade at least were the majority of these 2 up and 2 down terraced houses in working class neighbourhoods of industrial northern cities built. The fictional houses we see during the opening and closing sequences of the television programme, Coronation Street are the exact type of terraced houses I'm asking about.

The style was not confined to a single decade. Houses like these were being built from 1880 to 1910 with very little change. An architectural historian would readily identify the little differences characteristic to each decade, but to a casual observer they are all the same.

This style of house was built all over England from the mid nineteenth century to the early years of the 20th. They were designed to provide housing for the working classes flooding into the cities to work in the mills and factories of industrial towns. Some were 'back to back' - unlike those in Corrie they had no back yard and back lane, but the rear walls were joined on. Very many of this type of house in London were bombed in WW2 and there was an interesting TV programme ( a Time Team special - more details at http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/T/timeteam/2006_blitz_t.html) when kids from a local school excavated the site of streets in Shoreditch which had been leveled following being bombed out

I suspect the houses like in Coronation Street may be as old as the 1860s.
Don't forget, the big boom in areas like Manchester was the coming of the Railways beginning in the 1830's.

Terraced houses like them were being built in the 1900s. By the way, have you noticed that to use the toilets in the "Rovers" you have to walk into ken and Deidres house. They live right next door.
