When I was young I was considered good looking and I was really shy and innocent. I met a few drag queens and they scared hell out of me---because their humour was based on cruelty. Honestly they could be so bitchy that I just avoided them. Of course not all drags are like this. But I wonder why so many of them have their humour based in cruelty. (I know that cruelty is a basis for much humour--but in this case it sometimes seems exclusive.)

It is unfortunate that you have had this experience, but please don't think that all drag kings/queens are this way.

Many people, including those in this group, have had to put up with a lot from those around them. Turning other's rudeness into humor, poking fun at it, is the only way they know to keep it from really getting to them. It is a type of defense mechanism, a necessary one to prevent being hurt on a daily basis.

This doesn't just go for persons in drag...this goes for anyone who has had to put up with others mean spirits on a regular basis.

I've met some crude humor drag queens, but not too many vicious ones. Might just have something to do with the circles I hang out with, but...I can't answer your question because I haven't experienced that.

I agree with "batman". Life is cruel in many ways. I have not found the Queen realm to be excessively cruel but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Because they have lived a cruel life? A defense mechanism?
