You cannot have a BLANK hard drive and at the same time have anything on your computer.
What you can do is format the hard drive and reinstall XP. You'd then have to re-download the updates.
Formatting your hard drive wipes EVERYTHING, so be sure to backup anything you want to keep.

I don't even think you could do that unless you delete all the programs you have in your hard drive but you might delete some important stuff that you might not be able to get back so I suggest you don't do that but you could probably find a way to do it safely.

It would depend on the manufacturer. I just "rolled back" a Compaq desktop to OEM for a co-worker. It was built in the system. My Dell laptop does the same. Read through the manual or go online for your system.

My computer came with a RECOVERY CD-ROM
A 2 disc set that deletes EVERYTHING on your Computer
then the2nd disc only puts the basics that the computer came with back on it.
You might want to talk to someone at your local Computer Store about One of these disc sets
