Nocodazole is a drug that inhibits microtubule polymerization. It is possible to use nocodazole to synchronize a population of cultured cells by treating the cells with the durg and then washing it out of the medium. After the nocodazole is removed spindles can form again, so mitosis can take place. I guess the enzymatic reaction you are looking for is microtubule synthesis.
