Impossible for me to know. I don't know your coach's personality. He could be joking, or he might not be. With time you will probably find out.

God bless.

Are you guys all morons? He is the coach of his team. He can make whatever rules he wants as long as they are not immoral. If he wants to say only those with purple eyes and green toes can wear headbands he has that right. This is especially true because it is a private school. Young person quit trying to find all the things you don't like about your coach and learn from his discipline and skill and you might just learn something about basketball and life. Read Philippians 2:14 and Ephesians 2:8 & 9

I would need to know what his logic is first. Like if you tell people they can't wear a hat indoors, but in some cultures the head must always be covered. So you may excuse the rule for those people. I don't know about in the case of a headband though, but he could have a good reason.

If he said that and he won't let you wear one then YEAH he is racist. I would go to the Prinicpal or something and have a talk with them about it. I wouldn't go straight to the School Board, give a chance to the Principal first. Just be warned you may see your playing time or even yourself cut for trying to get something done about it. Even if you do it without your name being mentioned you are already someone the coach knows said something to him. I could see if it was about beliefs, like Native Americans or religious, but not as a general idea.

I have no idea; he sounds more ignorant than racist. Who cares about a headband and why would an American Indian (everyone born in the US is a native American) be the only person to wear it and why?

It doesn't sound racist, but it does sound discriminatory. Do you want to wear a headband so bad that you'll confront him about it? I suggest you let it go, unless you're ready for a war with your coach. If you do decide to confront him, have your parents back you up or you'll get nowhere. What will probably happen is that ultimately no one will be allowed to wear headbands.

He probably only lets them wear them for religious reasons. But I doubt the people wearing them are using them for that reason. If he is not asking them if that's why they want to wear them, then he is not being fair. But ultimately to answer your question, he's not being racist.

If you want to wear one bad enough, figure out what religions need them and claim that religion - so long as that doesn't go against the rules of yours.

Well it does sound like some form of discrimination but are you sure your coach said it in a serious way and he wasnt joking?

I know there was a school here in Oklahoma that forbid any time of hats or scarves on the kids heads. They were sued because there was a Muslim girl in the school, so they changed their rules. So maybe it is because of their customs.
