There are only 7 books in the Harry Potter series... one for each year Harry is at Hogwarts.
There are other books about Harry Potter and the world he lives in written by JK Rowling though... these include two books she wrote for charity a few years back... for Comic Relief....Fantastic Beasts and where to find them and also Quidditch through the ages...

As if you haven't already gotten dozens of answers, I shall add mine to the list. There will only be 7, though I'm sure that someone will eventually attempt to publish ann unauthorized continuation. There were rumors that JK had promised to write 8 total, either a prequel (about Lily and James) or a sequel/ companion involving a grown up Harry, but I believe that on her site she has disbanded the rumors and said that it'll end at 7. So if you add together the rumors, that would equal nine.
By the way, all HP fans must remember that July is unnofficial Harry Potter month! Celebrate it however you feel like, but celebrate it! You know, reread the books, have HP movie watching marathons, have a HP party, read the rumors, visit mugglenet.com, read fanfiction, dress up in a cape and hat...Whatever.

the last Harry Potter book is going to be the 7th book. It is called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. it comes out July 21.

7, theres an on going theme with the number 7 in the books you'll find. 7 books. harrys bday is the 7th month, 7 horcruxes, the book comes out in july, harry will be 17 and in his 7th year xx

well because there are only 7 years at hogwarts there is only going to be 7 books I am assumng because thats what the author said in her interveiw

I heard they're making only 7. A lot of ppl r saying he's going to die heroically. But go figure...
