you can have plenty of nice times with your friends and there is a huge waterfront park for dogs called the marina. yu have veiw of the whole bay. you all so have bart connection every where. i suggest buying or renting a home in the north side of dwight way , south side of university ave, west side of sacremento , and east side of san pablo. this is the very center of berkeley that offers everything. very close to 4 th street shopping district near the railroads

You should look at Walnut Creek, right next to Pleasant Hill. It's one of the Bay Area's best suburbs and a destination for a lot of people in the East Bay. It has a big downtown with tons of shops, restaurants, cafes, movie theater and a performing arts center. There is good nightlife on weekends. Good schools and lots of parks and open space to take your dogs. There are lots of trails that go thorugh town that can take you out into the open space. There are also tons of condos and apts within walking distance of downtown and the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station. Depending on where your job is in Pleasant Hill, you might be able to take BART from WC to PH and walk or take a bus. BART is also really convenient for trips into SF. Walnut Creek is a little pricier than Pleasant Hill but it's a really nice, safe community with a lot of things to do there. There are also a lot of condo's and apts near the Pleasant Hill BART station which is on the north end of WC. They are also building a new transit village at PH BART which will add to the appeal of the area.
You can check out WC's website at http://www.ci.walnut-creek.ca.us/.

I would also say live in Pleasant Hill or even better, Walnut Creek. The houses are reasonable and it is much more pet friendly than San Francisco. Walnut Creek is a nice town with good shopping, restaurants and it is really quite safe.

Walnut Creek by far is the best choice for being close to your job. It's a great place, wonderful downtown. The shopping is great (for your GF), plus it's very close to Pleasant Hill. Some parts of PH are nice and some aren't so nice. Stick with Walnut Creek, plus you are right by a BART Station and get easy access to SF.

Coming from NY, Sf will be a step up. But if your job is in Pleasant Hill Why live in SF? I would rather look for a place out there near work... Do you realize the commute time involved? Moreover, you must consider your two large dogs--- cooped up in an apartment. That would not be fair to your dogs....

P. Hill is a burb and hot in summer (hills block bay fog, wind)
If you want to be a little closer to work and yet still have some city life, and better weather, try Berkeley, Alameda, Rockridge Area of Oakland. These places are all convienient to BART the rapid transit that goes to P. Hill.
If job is not close to public transport guess you have to move closer and drive.

Pleasant Hill itself is nice, but I would probably recommend Walnut Creek. It's the town next to Pleasant Hill, and has a lot of good places to walk your dogs, lot of places to eat in the Downtown area, and is very safe to walk around

if you want convenience, then live in Pleasant Hill. San Francisco is a lovely, expensive city, but not for 2 big dogs.

you should try the east bay, unless you want a 25 mile horrendous commute. Pleasant Hill is located in nice suburb area which includes walnut creek lafayette, concord, clayton, etc.
You will not find any lofts. As it is primarily a bedroom community.

P. Hill is a nice location. Depending on what your willing to spend on rent or mortgage.. I like Moraga, Lafayette. A little pricey, but worth it. Other areas not so expensive, Antioch, Oakley good places for dogs.. the commute on Hwy 4 is brutal to and from P.Hill, but the homes are not nearly as expensive.
